1993 Mustang Cobra
* HP STAGE I This '93 Cobra is truly a "show" and "go" car. The car placed second in the SuperNationals car show in Albuquerque, New Mexico in a field of over 100 high-dollar show cars. The car was raced the night before, driven to the show, cleaned up, and blew all the "trailer queens" out the door! The car was dyno-tested at Powertrain Dynamics in Huntington Beach, California, one of the top dyno facilities in the country. On a run with 20 psi of boost, they had to let off at 4500 rpm as the boost was climbing a little too high. Still, the car put down 630 rwhp @ 4500 and 787 rwtq @ 4100. The torque peaked at 4100 rpm but the horsepower was still climbing! These are actual numbers at sea level, no correction factoring. The boost was then turned down to a more street-friendly level, peaking at 15psi but bleeding down to 13psi (needed a different boost controller), and the car made 572 rwhp @ 4600 and 708 rwtq @ 4000. The car was tested using Phillips 66 118 octane gasoline, 27° total timing. There was no detonation. This car has out-of-the box Edelbrock Performer heads, Cobra intake (lower matched to Edelbrock runners) and a B-303 cam. The short block is completely stock with the exception of ARP bolts. It still has the stock displacement, crank and rods. The turbo kit is the base HP Stage I kit with the C&L MAF, 42 lb injectors, a 1:1 regulator and the HP T3/T4 hybrid 60 mm turbo. The transmission is a World Class T-5 with a SPEC Stage 3 clutch, tires are 28x10.5 ET Drags with 3.73 gears. The power curves are as flat as Kansas. This completely street-legal car is regularly street driven on pump gas and then taken to the strip to make consistent runs in the low 10's and 135-140 mph!

MM&FF - March 2004 - Feature Article "THIS FEARSOME FORCE-FED FORD FLIES WITH A TURBO." "The trick system was necessary to supply sufficient fuel for the HP Performance turbo kit. The single turbo kit included everything necessary to add 6-15 psi or more (depending on engine size and turbo selected) to the 302. The engine specs hardly seem wild, yet the HP Performance turbo motor had no trouble spitting out 572 rwhp. The torque production is where turbo motors really shine, and this Cobra was no different as Anthony's '93 Snake pumped out an earth-shattering 708 lb-ft of torque at 15 psi......Let me tell you that from behind the wheel, the turbo motor feels every bit that fast, as the tidal wave of torque feel like you just got nailed in the back by a locomotive at full steam." - 10-Second Stock Block. Muscle Mustang & Fast Fords, March 2004.
