Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords
This is the
original Muscle Mustang & Fast Fords "Hooligan Hot Rod", which was featured in
multiple articles starting in October 2004. This '91 Mustang GT was
purchased for $1750 (engine was bad), a junkyard 5.0 engine was purchased for
$225, and for less than $2,000, the "Hooligan Hot Rod" was born. After no
more than a new set of rings, cylinder hone, bearings, fluids and assembly, the
car received a Stage I Streeturbo kit from HP Performance. On a completely
stock engine (block, internals, heads, intake, throttle body and cam), the car ran a 10.7 @ 130 mph!

".....we
were able to procure a ’91 GT with an AOD for a paltry $1,750. It had a
barely-running engine that burned one quart per mile, but had decent paint and
was already equipped with goodies such as a Lentech AOD with a 10-inch torque
converter, 3.73 gears, and a set of subframe connectors that were welded in. We
wasted no time in getting the car into our possession, and immediately found a
junkyard motor that came out of a ’91 Lincoln LSC. As many of you know,
this Lincoln engine is identical to the one that was factory installed in all
Mustang of the respective model years, so we knew that this example, even with
110,000 miles on it, would be a strong runner. For $225, it was ours. The only
thing was, we had to go pull it out of the car ourselves, which took an
afternoon. Within one weekend of work, we had a solid GT for $1,975, give
or take a few bucks for oil and coolant.
Mid-10s from a junkyard
motor in an AOD GT? No problem - just do a redneck rebuild (and an HP
Performance Stage I Turbo Kit).....Here are the numbers - 10.69 at 127.47 mph
with a 1.53 60-foot.....with a completely stock engine (down to the throttle
body, intake, heads and block)" - Muscle
Mustang & Fast Fords – “Hooligan Hot Rod” – October 2004.

Since it was originally built, the Hooligan Hot Rod has seen many more
modifications, including a new engine (the original junkyard "Lincoln" engine finally let go after too much
boost!). Here is what the car has on it at the latest report:
